Sometimes they will just pull off but yes, that is the part you need the puller for.

Yes the puller will screw into the 3 threaded screw hole and place pressue on the threded metal pole in the middle until hub pops off, then you can access the turn signal indicator. It's not to difficult, I've done it several times.

The easiest jobs always seem to turn into a headache for me...

I went to every autoparts store in town and nobody had a steering wheel puller that would fit the triangle bolt patterns, so I ended up getting a Harmonic Puller Set and it actually lines up with the holes...

The next problem was finding bolts long enough and the correct threading to fit in the holes, which required going to 3 different hardware stores...

Finally back home in the garage, get everything setup and start ratcheting away and I can basically see the bolts starting to strip out the holes before the hub moves a hair. I backed off the pressure before doing any serious damage. Tried WD40 no progress.

Any ideas?

If you can't fit nuts behind the plate, you can always drill and tap to the next largest size. Make sure you use a fine thread pitch.

Then thread the bolts in evenly. Use the center puller bolt to put a decent amount of pressure on the shaft/hub (around 25-30 lbs/ft torque), and give the center puller bolt a quick firm rap with a 16-22oz. hammer. It's more the shock of the hit, than the force. Most likely it is a cheap non-hardened hub. You may have to repeat this procedure a couple of times to get it to come loose. They can be a PITA sometimes.

Patience and attention to detail here will reward your efforts.

Good luck,

+1 on the hammer. The jolt is much stronger than the torque you get by just turning the bolt.

Another tip - rethread that large nut back onto the steering shaft just a tad bit. When you smack the puller to hank that plate loose, you don't want the whole thing to go flying into your face if it decides to fly off... Putting that nut back on will stop the plate from flying off.

ORIGINAL: Soaring

Then there is the shade tree mechanic method. Get a big baseball bat and whack the crap out of it from the backside . Or, go get bubba and have him wrestle it off.
um, I thought that the shade-tree way was the channell locks
