Default Toploader codes

I have what I assume are 5 toploader transmissions. The codes are RUGAW 012735, RUGAW 012407, RUGM 014358, RUGAE2 010405, and RUGAJ 016781.

Can someone tell me what these are by the codes? Also a price range assuming they are in useable condition. I have been contacted by one person wanting the RUGAE2 from this forum and want to be fair on a price.

Thanks.

RUG-AE2 is a close ratio Toploader and was used in 1969 Mustangs with 428 and BOSS 429 engines and has a 31 spine output shaft. My guess is that its somewhat rare and hard to find.

I bought a bunch of parts. Didn't know what I was buying except it was all old mustang parts. I didn't even see two of the transmissions. I'm now trying to figure out what I have. Ive got a bunch of heads and intakes that I'll need to look into next.

Try these sites: 5 Speeds or 4 Speed Toploaders.

5 Speeds has a tag lookup. I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but it could be useful. The guy at 4 Speed Toploaders is pretty knowledgable. It's where I bought my Toploader wide ratio. Originally, it was from behind a 429, but he changed the input shaft to work with my small block.

There are several Top Loaders used up into the early 80's. Past about '73, the Toploaders lost weight/strength to help with economy. Much like the Deuce, they are maligned and often not recognized as true Toploaders, even though they are. The desirable ones are from a narrow year range in the muscle car era due to the spline counts. FYI, Ford made a 3-speed top loader (original in many early Stangs) as well, along with an OD toploader (late 70s, got one in a '78 Fairmont Futura 5.0L. It's currently in the fix 'er up stage receiving the body work to get a paint job).

I'll give you $100 each and pay shipping.[sm=devilangel.gif]

Seriously, if they are in good working order (provable) you should be able to get $400-$500. Otherwise, $200-$300. Take into account the shipping cost, which will approach $100 each.

I just looked up when I purchased my Toploader. It was from Perogie and I paid $1410 with an original style shifter and completely rebuilt with new parts in 2004. This also included the change in the input shaft. I thought I had bought from the TopLoader place, but I didn't. I did talk to them quite a bit, though, to gain some good info.

Well shifty101easy as I have 5 it will probably take me a while to sell them. I'm in no hurry so let me know if you want me to hold on to one for you.

I'm planning on bringing some more parts back on my next trip, so I'll take a closer look at these and bring some back. There are a lot of parts to sort through and I really appreciate the help.
