today i put the first coat of fiberglass on my door. it turned out pretty good for it being my first time using matte. i grinded all the bad metal off and sanded the rust and door skin to bare metal. i thought it was going to be harder than i thought.

Fiberglass should cure as hard as glass(der!), if it is slightly gooey or even wet looking but not gooey, you either used too little hardener or it was way too cold in the area u did it in. Id have to say the first since its summer...

Do what you think feels secure. If I was u I would lay a thick layer, smooth it down, then 2 thin layer and fine grit paper to level it. Then for security, I would turn it over and put a big blob of resin on the back side of the metal to help from pulling out...
