I have a 289 a with single point distributor. I wrestled with EI but i finally bit the bullet and installed a Pertronix Ignitor II system. I got it from NPD here in Michigan. This system has the electronic module under the distributor cap so it still looks like my ignition system is stock. I had to buy a new coil with it. It was super simple to install and I have noticed that my car idles a little smoother and accelerates a little crisper. I mainly did it for ease of maintenance. I have no experience with the systems where you replace the entire distributor. However my distributor was working fine and I did not want to spend the extra money. Good Luck.

Weekend show car. Polish that Mallory. It's totally old school. For drivabilty and lack of maintenance, go Electronic.
For the best of both, I read an article about 5 years ago where they converted the Mallory to a single trigger electronic.
You might try a search on Google to see if the info is available on the web.

Good luck.

BTW: Did you get the advance key with it? If so, you need to put it on your key ring. Old school folk will then know you're a super tuning gear head. Everyone else will ask what it's for.

Agreed. If you want to look old school original, get the Pertronix.

All you need is an MSD 6AL box to go along with your current dizzy. You'll need to disable the secondary points, but the primary points will be sufficient to trigger the MSD box. Make sure you have a good high rpm set of points to prevent mistriggers at high rpm.
