Hole In My Pocket?
I own a 66 Hardtop, and I mean it has never lead me wrong, no problems, a few check up costing more then needed, because of my laziness. But I sit in bed at night thinking of a V8. I love my inline six, but yes there are limits to upgrades for performance. I mean gas mileage is great, and everything is going good, but I think I asked this question a long time ago, but I haven't been here for quite sometime, so my memory is a little rusty.
Anyways... How much on an estimate would it cost me to put a 289/302 into my car, I don't want to do it myself, I have another project taking up my garage space as of right now. So tell me what I need someone else to do, and what I should look out for when they do it. I understand it is a fairly simply job, and I think someone had mentioned a different rear axle somewhere down the line, and a different bell housing, but what else is there, I think motor mounts, and what else. I appericate anything you can give.
Or would it be cheaper/better to just find one with a V8 in it (I still have one more space on my driveway, lol). What should I do? I thought about a fastback, but I don't think I could afford one with a V8. Any advice would be gladly appericated.

I think the cheapest route would be to yank the motor and tranny out of another car (like at a boneyard) and just do a simple swap. You may need misc other parts (cheap stuff) depending on what you got the engine and tranny out of, but other than that not much at all. I'd say around $800 for a descent motor and tranny + $300 for misc other stuff + $500 for labor. But as they say, always expect it to cost twice as much and take twice as long...
I think the best bet(cheapest) would be to sell off the six, and buy one with a V-8.
Did you look into mods for the six? Try www.fordsix.com and www.cliffordperformance.com.

Yes Bob I know those two websites very well. I have headers from Clifford, and gotten a lot of my ideas from the Falcon Performance book I ordered off fordsix.com. My six has a little work here and there, I have the adapter for the 2V with a 350 cfm carb on there. I have the Roller Tipper Rockers in there (being cheap and not spending the extra $80). Adjustable Moly pushrods are in there too. Forged pistons are sitting on the work bench waiting to be installed, along with 250 head. I thought about the Clifford Super Rebuild kit, along with that $1000 cylinder head, but right now a lot of my cash goes to rent, food, etc. and the project in my garage. I think I might do a different cam sometime in the future depending on what I decided to do. Thanks for you help though, I appericate it.
