Default re-building a 289

hi,
i just got a 289 for my 67 mustang. it came out of a 66. its a 2barrel carb."
the engine has some rust from sitting but looks like a little steel wool and some paint will make it look nice.
the guy said it ran "real nice" when it came in but its been sitting for a while so he said it should probably be rebuild to "freshen it up" how much do u think it needs to be rebuilt what should i do to it?
any info please... i've never rebuilt and engine so any info is good

how much money do you want to spend? if you just want to clean it up. i would say take off the valve covers and intake mani to just clean it all up, and do all the little things like plugs, oil, oilfilter, carb clean,.... unless you really have some time and money then take it all apart and do a full rebuild. its all on what you want to do.
