Of course, how else do you keep the rag tops on the roof? LOL jk.

So why would roofing nails be so bad?

Because roofing nails are for putting shingles on a roof not for attaching things to your classic stang. It like saying "Why can't I hold up my exhaust with coat hangers?" The answer is yes you can, it's just not the right way to do it. There are better ways
