Default 351 into a 65 Convertible...is it safe?

Hey all,
Am getting conflicting opinions out here. I have a 65 stang drop top into which I am shoe horning a 351 windsor. Just a 2bbl. But in time I want to convert to a 4bbl. While some claim it is good for fastbacks they say it shouldnt be for convts. because it would be prone to turning over if I bump up the 351's HP futher. Is it really going to be unsafe? Please email me your thoughts.

Also, would that mean having to work on the suspension to accomodate a heavier powerplant?[:-]

The 351W weighs 510 lbs, whereas the 289-302 weighs 460 lbs. Now, do you really think 50 extra pounds on the front end is going to cause that vert to turn over? It's always a good idea to upgrade the front suspension, but not necessary with this conversion.

thanks for the reply. that should help dispel nay sayers as i slip that 351 into the engine bay. So even if i bump up HP it wouldnt be a prob? What can i do to squeeze more from a 351 windsor? Any suggestions that would help keep it streetable but turn the 65 vert into a sleeper. Plan is to keep it stock looking til the light turns green.

also have upgraded to discs in front.

could i use the rack and pinion of a 74 stang to place on the 65?

and finally, is your coupe springtime yellow? am confused with phoenician yellow...was the similar?

I know it is a lot in terms of questions but I am just brimming with queries as I engage in resto modding this 65...

Yes, it is Springtime Yellow. I would shy away from any 74's cars for upgrades. You can get Flaming River Rack and Pinion steering that will work for your classic.
