Can a 351 be put in a 68 Mustang ?
I am saving up for a new motor, and was wondering if a 351 could be installed in a 68 mustang automatic ?
I would like to know just what I would have to get in order to install it. The less items the better. My 302 has headers, intake. What would be involved, have you done it ?

351w fits pretty easy. You cannot use your intake or distributor from your 302. You can use all of the pulleys and accessories, and your headers will probably work too. The deck is a little higher but most exhaust systems have enough flex to accommodate that.
Yep. I did my swap when my trusty 302 endured one to many high rpm burnouts.
You will also need the adapter bracket for the alternator, but other than that it's about the easiest swap you can do except for a 289 to 302 swap.

Waiting for a reply from a person that wants to sell his 351W. Looking up all the stuff I might need to then rebuild it. This may be the way to go instead of trying to save up for a 347 stroker... Plus I would be able to finally build myself another Ford engine. The 289 I built many years ago was a screamer ! And put the 302 Jasper engine that is in it now to shame !
Picked up my used 351W engine today.
So far, the engine is like new on the inside !
The push rods look like they just came out of the box.
The engine came with chrome valve covers and oil pan. I will be replacing them with a stock oil pan and my aluminum valve covers.
It came with a Edelbrok Proformer aluminum manifold and Holley carburetor.
It also has a Mallory Unilite distributor and Accel coil.
The freeze plugs look like new.
I will still pull it apart and double check the insides and put all new gaskets, bigger cam, timing chain, roller rocker arms, water pump on it. And repaint it..
Not too bad for $400 ! Shoot the distributor alone cost $399 !
