Ignition replacement
Hello all!
I have a 65 straight six. Some one tried to steal my baby the other day by cramming a screwdriver in the ignition. My ignition is on the dash not the column and all I can find in my books is how to replace the column ones. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to fix this? Thanks so much!!

I have a 67, but I would think the procedure is the same. The problem is whether or not you can still get the key in and turn the tumbler.
If you can, turn the key to accessory and insert a paper clipp into the little hole on the face of the tumber. The tumbler will then rotate further and you will be able to pull it out. A replacement will be available at prob. any parts store.
If the key does not work, you will have to replace the whole ignition switch or get a locksmith to remove the tumbler (if possible). It is prob cheaper to just by a tumbler and switch though.
To remove the old ignition switch, you will have to unscrew the chrome bezel/face plate. To do this you need a special tool OR, as I am sure this is how most people do it, you will notice little slot in the bezel, take a flat head screw drive and stick it in the slot and tap with a hammer counter clockwise to unscrew it. Once the bezel is off, you will have to finagle the switch out from the rear, under the dash. Once you have it out it is just a matter of switching over the wire to the new bezel and reversing the process. Again the tumbler will insert into the switch only so far. You have to put the key in and a paper clip in the hole to get it to rotate the rest of the way and seat in the ignition switch.
Hope this helps, I am sure someone will clarify if yours is not the same set up as a 67.3
Good luck.

The key goes in but the whole mech has been twisted the ring around the mech is still in its normal spot but where the key goes in is twisted so that the acc position when you turn the key is what used to be off (don't know if that makes sense) So hopefully that won't make it more difficult. But the key does go in
If the key goes in and you can start the car, it would seem that the b@#$tard just rotated the switch. You should be able to get the tumbler out w/o removing the whole switch. Give it a shot. You can't do anymore harm. Let us know how it goes.
By the way, you should pick up a ford shop manual. Has all the answers and more.
Good luck.
