I6 Question
I recently bought a 67 coupe with an I6. The guy I bought it off of didn't drive it for 5 years or so. It starts and runs fine so I was thinking about leaving the I6 in it for a while to see how I like it. Does anyone have any suggestions on things I should do to the I6 to prolong its life and to ensure that keeps on running. I don't want to throw a lot of money into the engine because I don't know if I am going to stick with it, but is there any mods that I should do to this motor?
Thanks
Thanks
What i would do to prolong my classic motor is just the basic things. Replace the pistons, rings and bearings. also, flush the radiator several times and make sure the cooling system in the motor is clean and make sure the water is not all gooye in the radiator. then once you flush the radiator a couple tiems and the water is allmost absalutly clear, flush it one more time, and then put a mixture of coolant and.... damn, my mind is blank, coolant and that kind of water that is pure, no salt or bacteria...any way do that. replace all the fluids, IE, oil, transmission oil, power stearing fluid, etc etc. replace the oil filter, make sure the air filiter is clean and not clogged. do all that and the engine should be happy and will serve you for many years.
You can add power to the 200 I6 you already have. Try these guys to get indepth performance options information about the I6. http://www.fordsix.com
like soaring said, fordsix.com is a great site.
if it has sat for five years i'd look into a carb rebuild. but, if it runs fine keep the oil changed. the antifreeze correct. then run it.... as far as mods go . there are plenty of options.

ok, first step, pull the spark plugs and put some marvel mystory oil into each cylinder...let it soak for 2-3 days, turn engine over by hand.
2. put NEW oil and filter in. remove distributor. spin oil pump with an electric drill to prime the oiling system.
3. rebuild the carb
4. change the battery and ALL battery cables
