Default 302 Engine 67?

Looking at a restored 67 convertible. It has the 302 v8 with a 4 barrel carb. Owner claims this engine was available as special order late in 1967 for 67 models. This site's articles show the 302 started in the 1968 models. Anyone have any additional information on this? I've also heard some mixed reports on the reliability of the early 302's though this site indicates they were high quality option.

Thanks.

The 68 was the first year of the 302. What is the engine code in the VIN?

Late 68' s were the first to have the 302. Ive never heard of any reliability issues
with the early 302's. My 68 has a 302 Ive never had any engine issues, only carb
issues.

Thanks to both. I was pretty sure the 302 first started in 68 and not in 67. In your opinions, does this add or subtract to the value of the car? My thoughts are that it adds some power, though detracts more since it is not a 67 option. Appreciate your opinions on what this does to the pricing and resale value down the road.

Should not hurt the value unless you have a numbers matching Barret Jackson special!

Well if its a 67 gt 500 or gt 350 I would imagine it subtracts significantly from the value.

However if its a plan jane 289 c code or even an a code gt I wouldn't worry too much about it and if it was really a t code...well its prob added value

it would hurt if it was a K or a S code...
