Default Body Shops

Im looking to get some serious body work done on a 73. I dont want to get any bondo work done, I want new sheet metal done in the back quarter panels and the like. Anyone recommend a great body shop that does this type of work , say in the central part of California? Ill go LA to SF if the work is done right.

Thanks.

some type of filler will be used esp if ur gonna get new quarter panels. brand new cars use body filler, and lead type wprk is rarely used and will be costly

yep, with new panels comes "bondo" work! lead is just almost a lost art and if you want your panels to be straight as a arrow you will need to glaze the car and block it down. most people think of a body shop going crazy with bondo and putting it 5 inches thick but that is not the case for most shops, remember if you go with the cheapest quote you will get the cheapest looking job..... good luck

Call the president of the local Mustang Club and ask them for a recommendation for a body shop.

You'll for sure want to do your home work before you decide. Like Soaring said, call the local guys and ask lots of questions.

Any reputable shop will use filler to prep for paint. There's a diff. between filler prep and filler repair. If a shop is using filler to repair, then you need to know about it. Nothing worse than watching that precious pony start blistering and showing poor workmanship not long after you get her back.

Good luck with it.

Body filler has been abused and has gotten a bad rap, and the product name Bondo that has
become synonomous with body filler. Regardless if the work is done properly and body filler
is used in moderation than there wont be any problems. Just look at the car Crazy Horse 65 FB that
Coddington built, I seem to remember them skim coating and blocking like 85% off. And that
car was eventually auctioned in Scottsdale for somewhere in the neighborhood of $180,000.
