Default 130 amp alternators

If I go to the local autoparts store do I tell them I want an alternator for a 95-ish Mustang (130amp) ?

I know if I tell them I want a 130amp alternator for a 351 they'll totally screw up lol

what is enough amps to run a stero, AC, fog lights, and the normal stuff like lights etc....

i wanna get one of those chrome ones, and im pretty sure my alternator took a sh*t because a new battery wont stay charged...i just returned it and got a new batt today but i think im gonna just get a new alternator because after u jump it and leave the car running the dead batt should begin to charge, correct?

It will depend on the stereo, but a 70 amp alternator is more than enough amps to run everything. The original alternator on my 65 was like 40 amps. Be sure you have the correct size charging cable. See this chart.

and the correct fan for the direction it will be turning... some go the other way because of serpentine belt systems...

70 amps is pushin it for most stereo stuff, some of the really out there stereo people use two 130 amp alternators.. its nuts, just nuts I tell ya!

In theory, couldn't you determine your max power demand by turning on everything in your car (i.e. lights, wipers, blower, stereo, etc) and measuring the load that is being placed on your eletcrical system?

If so - how (or where) would you go about placing your meter to get this reading???

I ask for an "alternator for a 1996 Mustang 3.8 V6". There are other ones you can use but that will get you a 130 amp 3G suitable for retrofit. No worries about turning "backwards". Only the water pump and radiator fan rotation is reversed with serpentine belt setups.
