Can a 302 expert tell me if this is correct:

On a 302 the lower crank pulley holds 3 belts, one belt runs WP and Alt, one belt runs AC, and one belt runs PS ?

And would that be identical setup on a 289 ?

No, you'll burn up the bearings in the pump, the shaft will break, the pulley and belt will then fly of in some random direction, usually heading straight towards the most expensive object around.

I wonder if I should just throw the PS pump back in there and have it spin the water pump but not have the PS pump hooked up to anything - is that even possible (run dry)?

well I figure if I get a 3-groove WP pulley of a 302 one of those grooves MUST line up, so I can go Alt --> WP --> Crank.

I hope...

Back belt: Crank->WP->PS
Front belt (no AC): Crank->Alt

I think the front belt in a 3-groove is for AC.

wow this has turned into a real headache!

what do people normally do when they install the MS converter? cuz once that PS pump is gone nothing will drive the WP! they conveniently forget to tell you all this when you buy it ! [:@]

I like power steering...so I'll be keeping mine. Just get a set of pulleys and you'll be good to go.
