Turbo. There was a 63 (i think) falcon in mm&ff i think it was recently with an I6 with a turbo running about 12psi(on a basically stock engine), 3500 stall C4, 3.90 gears and it ran mid-12s.

Second the Turbo motion... Got a buddy used to bracket race with who had a slant 6 in his Dart. Ran bottom 12s high 11s NA.. Called it the "buzzin half dozen" Turned it to around 7500 rpm and had it in a very light car. Would be much easier to run a good number like that with a turbo, maybe even a late model EFI from a F150.. would make a turbo setup very easy.. Hell just drop in the 300 and go from there.. Its a great engine. (just kinda small and sounds wrong to me)

Back in the 70s when this stuff was dirt cheap, I chopped the intake manifold off and put some side draft motorcycle carbs on. I think I got the idea from an old magazine, or maybe some guys talking about it at the strip. First head I ported right into the water passages. Second head I was more conservative with the porting, but tried to "stick" weld the pipes for the intake manifold. They kept cracking and sucking air. The third time (3rd times a charm) I made some equal length intake runners (out of an old set of headers) and brased them to the head. Ran a split into two manifolds for a couple of side draft webbers. Long tubes and carbs where a bit big for the otherwise stock engine, but it did come on pretty good at the top end. Bottom end was a bit of a dog. I was just 14 or so, and really didn't know what I was doing. The whole ordeal cost less than $50.00 and helped me learn some stuff.
I've thought about doing it again, but nothing is cheap anymore. So I'm going V8. Bang for the buck, it can't be beat.
