Default Will this engine fit my 65?

I just got a 1965 Mustang with a straight six and I want to beef it up. A local guy is selling a 351 Cleveland out of an early 70's mustang... would this fit? Would it be a good engine to put in the car. Supposively it runs and is complete from pan to carb and he only want $400 OBO. I thought I would offer $300. Does this sound like a good deal? Tips and advice are welcome because I am new to the Mustang world!

itll be a tight fit, but yes, you might have to mod the engine bay slightly though

yeah 351c is the biggest size you can get in there without heavy mods, from my understanding

Yes, it will fit. However, you will have to spend several thousand dollars on the 6 banger Mustang to prep it for the Clevo. Ask yourself if you are able and want to do that before you take the leap.

Prepare to upgrade your suspension to handle the larger C, prepare for a big headache trying to get the headers mounted, and work on finding an 8 or 9" 5-lug donor so that you can convert. Thats just a few of the other things you will need to do...

So what size engine should I be looking for to get the most power, but yet not have to modify things too much! I am just a beginner and want to try to do as much as I can on my own. I got time to learn and room to work but I don't want to be unrealistic either. Your guys' help is very much appreciated! Give me some ideas!

289/302, beef it up, will give some nice power, but then once you have hte motor make it a 331 or a 347 then you're really talkin!

Just so you are clear, there are no mods you have to do to the car to fit the cleveland motor that you don't also have to do for any v8 upgrade.

Just to let you know, yes, a 351 Cleveland will fit in it- got a friend that just restored a 65 and that's what he put in it. I'm not exactly sure what all extras he had to buy to put into changing it but he just finished on the car last week after two years of work. I'll finally get to see it maybe this week. If you have any other questions about it I can ask him for you, just let me know.

A 351C will fit it. Dodgestang is right, the mods are the same for either. Spend the money, modify the suspension and do it right. Put in which ever one you want. A 351C is a nice motor and you would be happy with it and they are becoming harder and harder to find.
