Default Water Pump Question

I have been looking at getting a new water pump for fordainia. The original water pump did not have a backing plate and when I went to the local parts house the one with the backing plate did not look like they matched up. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Should I just buy the one without the backing plate.

Thanks

The backing plate is attached to the block and allows you to attach the water pump to the block. Without a backing plate, you won't be able to have a water pump. Check your engine again, and see if the backing plate is still on the block. If so, just buy the water pump without the backing plate, if it is not there, then get one. Here is one source.

There is definately a timing cover/backing plate behind the pump.

I am wondering if I purchase a pump that has a backing plate on it instead of an exposed impeller if that will create a problem.

No need to do that. Just get a pump with the exposed propeller, slap some black goop on the gasket and bolt it on. I wouldn't spend the extra money for a backing plate too. Why are you even considering it?

Thats just the issue.

THe one with the backing plate is only $20 brand new lifetime warranty(A third of the other ones price)! I don't mind buying either one but if I can put that $40 towards a better coil or my brakes then I am a happy man.

Thanks

Just make sure it fits your engine. Other than that, I can't think of a reason not to get the pump with the backing plate for a cheaper price than just the pump. Unless it is made of pot metal or some cheap crap.

Does anyone know what water pumps are interchangeable?
