Hot Wire
tearing my stang down, My key ignition froze and broke, so i disconnected it and removed the bezel disconnected all wires and labeled them, but now i need to start it so i can move position in my garage, does anyone know how i can start her?
1 - Locate the starter relay
2 - Hook a jumper from the Heavy connector (from the battery) to the small connector on the starter side. Leave both the existing wire and the jumper wire connected to the post. This will spark a little as what you are doing is connecting the battery to the coil (Bypassing the resistor)
3 - Make sure the car is in park or otherwise safe Set the ckoke and then touch either a screwdriver or a wire from the hattery connection to the small post closest to it. This will crank the engine and if ready to start it will.
Remove the jumper to shut off engine.

I tried this and engine just turned and turned.....An electrition buddy said to stop because im just tearin up the starter. he said i would have to still spark the ignition on the dash....my question is then whats the point of runnin the jumper...who's right? And any advise would help on gettin her started. im goin this weekend to oick up a dash ignition in houston but now i just want to start it out of spite....
You need to provide power to the ignition system. Locate the two wires that will connect the ignition to power in the pigtail that goes to your switch and place a jumper between them (this will kill the engine when removed, as well). Then, do as before to crank the engine over (you can also use a jumper on the same pigtail inside the car if you really wanted).

thanks, I have the diagrams for the car but didnt know the process

Just run a jumper wire from the battery to the battery side of the coil. This will bypass the switch circuit and ballast wire and will energize the coil. Then use a second jumper wire from the battery side of the solenoid or the battery itself, to the small stud on the solenoid that is on the same side as the large battery post, but do not clamp it on the small post, just press against it, until the motor starts then pull it away. To shut it off disconnect the coil from the battery.

Fun stuff, hotwiring a car. Here is an electrical modification that I cannot blame on a moronic previous owner... I can only blame the moronic current owner.
This was right after I got the 72 and I had no idea there were places such as NPD that sold replacement parts for these cars. The 72 shop manual had a test procedure for checking continuity across various pins with the key at "run", "start" wherever. I just soldered a couple of switches across the relevant pins. The on / off switch was for ignition (key = run), the "rocker" or momentary type switch was for the starter. With this gizmo in place, it was now possible to start the car from the comfort and convenience of the driver's seat. And with no need for that bothersome ignition key.
Of course the switch has long since been replaced with a new one but I did drive the car around for a month or two with this thing in there.
