cost me 350 bucks shipped for a complete pumpkin with a locker unit and my choice of motive gears (3.55's). IF you've never done a rear end before, I would recommend takin it to a shop (which will probably cost you another hour or two worth of labor) to have it installed.

Is it proper to call a locking "FORD" differential a "posi"? I thought that was GM's trademarked term, and that Ford uses the terms "Detroit-Locker", "Traction-Lock", etc.

Am I losing my mind?

Posi is just easier to say, and it sounds cooler.

It doesn't sound cooler. This is a chevey term and shouldn't be used on a Ford.

Best non-trademarked term to use is "limited slip differential".

It's pretty darned easy to slide the axles out and replace the pumpkin.

I have a Detroit Locker in my 9". If I drove it on the street more I'd probably want the new Truetrac (smoother gear action, compared to the Locker that ratchets).

MAE Racing

This is where I got my pumpkin from, although I don't see any available 8" on there site currently. Give them a call though, I believe they manufacture their own reinforced 8" housings and they can pretty much custom build a 3rd member any way you want it.

EDIT: Here is an 8" center section : 8" Posi. WOW, prices went up! I bought mine from these guys' ebay store about 3 years ago.
