Default Measurements

If anybody has a little extra free time this afternoon, would you mind grabing your tape measure, and measuring your Left front frame rail from the torque box to the front end of the frame rail, and if you've got a torque box on the right side, that side too, please. Thanks in advance.

We 65-66 coupe and fastback guys don't have torque boxes. What year model do you need the measurement from, and for what model?

Man.. what an adventure.. Ever try to find something you dont use often? Like a tape measure? I have 4 or 5 of them and do ya think I could find one? Plus rain yesterday after I said it wasnt... what fun. I need to get the dang truck out of the shop and the Cougar in it.. Everyone should motivate me, only on here after dark since I have an inside shop...

Well enough about the trials of helpin someone out..

The Cougar only has one box on it and the power steering is in the way of alot of things. Also have pics if you need them.

Torque box to rear of framerail, measured from inside the TB to the top corner of the rail where it attaches to the floor. 19.5"
TB to front of frame rail 42 1/16"
Rail to rail 27" across from the TB.
Rail to rail at the forward most flange of the fail under the radiator 32.25"
Front of TB to rear most lower controll arm mount 16"

Its a tad grungy under there and the wire brush wont fit past everything.. excuses I know.. But these are as close as possible under the circumstances.

Its still on jackstands in front of the shop, so if you need more just post them up.

Just wondering Todd. Is the Cougar the same exact framerail/ torque box configuration/length as it's sister Mustang?

Front end is the same from what I been told.. but yeah wheel base is slightly longer in the Cougar. Knowing Ford, its in the floorpan and rocker arms. I havent measured a coupe to know exactly where they got the extra.. but it wouldnt be tough to find out.

Did ya know that 64-73s all used the same basic floor pan? wierd...

This is from the 1968 shop manual, not 1967. Maybe someone can verify whether everything is the same for a 67. Dimensions are listed for "Mustang and Cougar", the only difference seems to be in the rear frame rails. Oh yeah the back end of the Cougar is supposed to sit a little lower than the mustang... that's not currently the case for my 68. If it turns out the dimensions for the 68 and 67 are the same just ask if you need the numbers... a little tough to read in this pic.

Yeah I know the exact measurement you were looking for is not in that diagram but it may give you some other things to check...
