Default timing gears??

anyone know anything about timing gears? What makes them better then a timing chain other then they wont stretch and get off time. has anyone ever heard of or put timing gears in a classic stang? can anyone give a guest-a-ment as to the price of a set. thanks for any help, i am thinking about putting timing gears in my 68'.

for a sbf it cost 200.00. Just eliminates chain stretch, but it makes a whinning noise.

More accurate timing for a highly modifed engine, just noisy if not.

I have an edelbrock accudrive geardrive in mine. They provide slightly more finite timing adjustment capabilities, but they aren't really worth any performance (hp) boosts. Honestly, I bought mine purely for the noise it makes. Some of the cheaper gear drives are very chattery, but the edelbrock drive imitates the whine of a blower right on the money.

My Father-in-law has a set of timing gears in his SBC S-10 and he also bought them for the sound, Pete Jackson Noisy gears. It does sound similar to the whine of a supercharger. Another Cheby friend has the same gears in his C-10 pick-up and gets asked all the time if he has a blower. I considered them for my Stang but as everyone else has said on a mildly modded engine there is no real benefit other than the sound, looks and questions.

Interesting discussion--As to converting - In gear to gear the cam turns backwards (counterclockwise) as the crank turn clockwise,

In a chain system both gears turn the same way (Think bicycle)

there are actually 4 gears: take a look, 4 gears, but they act as 3 to counter what you decribed.
