Default doors locking

on my 1965 mustang the passenger door doesnt lock like i think its supposed to when you dont use the key. Did the 65s do what some of the later mustangs did? By that i mean when you get out of the car and push down the window lock and then hold the door button and close it did they lock? My passenger side isnt doing taht and im not sure if it needs to be fixed or if it never worked that way. Thanks.

I have always been told that would work but on my 65 is will not work on either door. I always have to lock it with the key.

That's funny you mention that. On my 67 the driver side door can be locked simply by pushing the **** down and closing the door. While the passenger side requires that you hold in the "thumb button" on the handle when closing.

I always figured one of the mechanisms had been replaced, but never knew which was was actually functioning correctly. Anyone know?!?

my 67 had to have both buttons pressed, on my 69 the driver door is missing the spring that holds the lock in the up position so it doesn't matter it locks either way. The passenger needs to be pressed.

on my 66, i have to shut the door, then lock it with the key. I have tried the, hold the button technique, and it doesn't work. My impala works that way.

As I said I have to key lock mine, however my father in law has a mustang that can be locked by holding the outside button then shutting the door. It is either a 64,65, or 66. (I am not sure about the year because it is pieced together from all 3 years and I have 0 idea what the door if off of.)
