Default Where's my acceleration?

According to my mechanic my car should be pushing close to or over 400hp. I have a 351C 4V, holy carb, headers, flowmasters, beefed up cam. The engine was just rebuilt in 03 with about 9k on it. Spark plugs and wires are pretty close to new and the timing was just fixed in May. However it doesn't seem that fast compared to my 99 I had with 4.10 gears. That only had a little over 300hp with the mods I had done, but it seemed a lot snappier. Is it just because my rear end is only 3.25?

Quick note:

The other day I put the pedal to the floor going on the highway and when I reached 70 the engine bogged and I had no power. I let my foot off the gas then pressed it again after a brief delay I felt some accelartion and then nothing. What could be causing this? I am thinking about getting rid of the points and getting an electronic distributer and some hotter burning plugs.

Any suggestions?

Throw the points in the trash man, ur car will run a million times better with electronic. There are several different routes u can take, all will be an improvement

You're running out of fuel.

My '71 doesn't feel nearly as fast as my '03, but will leave it in the dust without hesitation. Butt dynos aren't really that accurate.

the 3.25 will definately feel a little sluggish compared to a 4.11 off the line, but should start to even out once the revs come up.
on the highway sounds like it is running out of fuel. 70mph on a 3.25 will be a little over 3000rpm. what does it do over 3000 in lower gears? does it run out of puff then too? Could be a fuel pump problem.

As Sean said, could be a trans issue...what's in it?

your old points system should work fine if maintained. it sounds like something fuel related. IMO i'd be following that path first before changing to electronic dizz (not to say you wouldnt change...I agree it is better, but fix the cause first)

HAHAHAHAHAHA, Emperor that was funny dude. Yeah man, most people think the old mustangs are fast, just because they're a mustang..... I dont want to tell them, that their little taurus's, grand am's, pretty much anything, can beat my 66 with a V8. It makes me sad. I haven't got beaten by a van yet. I almost got beat by a new Malibu though, and my friend wouldn't let me live it down. i still beat him, but JUST.

Mod your v8 and change gearing and you'll beat them. There's a guy on another forum with a naturally-aspirated 289 running 12's in the 1/4. Saw the vid and it was very inspiring.

yeah, I know. It's mostly gearing, that they beat us. They have 4 speeds or 5 speeds..... i have a 3 speed. I have a 2.80 rear end, and they have a 3.20 something. I have more power then them, and im lighter then them. You would think that i would win, but it doesn't happen.
