electronic ignition

id like to get rid of the points in the distributor, what are all the componets needed to add to the stock 302 in my mustang to make it an electronic ignition?

I got the pertronix kit with the matching Pertronix 1 coil, very straight forward and easy to install...but i haven't tryed it yet, the motor is not in the car yet...

You can just replace the dizzy with a drop in unit like this one. There's also the e-curve style with a built in rev limiter and digital ignition curves...

A stock 302 will run just fine with a $70.00 Pertronix module. You don't need a new dizzy or coil. It takes less time to install it than it does to change your points. Now, if you are running a race engine, and you want an electronic ignition to match all your big power add-ons, then spending 400 bux for a dizzy may be what you want to do. MSD makes a good system, but they are pricey too. HEI is also a possibility, but again, expensive.

thanks for all the info guys....i found some kits by crane cams too are those any good or just junk?

I put the Petronix II kit on with the coil and wires, changed the plugs and the car runs amazingly better! It didn't break the bank either!

9.50 works for me but since i work at a speed shop i get discount thats why i have tons of parts and none of them installed cause i have no time
