Default 4-Lug 302?

I have a 68 302, but the wheels are 4-lug? Is this normal? Its a 2brl version if that means anything.

Welcome to my world. It sounds like another case of a 6-to-8 cylinder swap that wasn't *quite* completed.

Absolutely not. Any and all V8 cars got five lugs. If your VIN indicates your car is supposed to have anything other than a 6 cylinder, you've got bigger problems than your wheels. For now though, that thing is not safe to drive with those under-sized brakes and weak rear end.

Interesting...

Maybe I had it backwards: Someone was switching it to a 6 cylinder - but never got the engine!

I'll let someone else with a better historical knowledge tackle the 8 cylinder with 4 lug option. Have you decoded any of the other tags?

maybe it was a stolen and torn down vehicle. then someone picked it up and unknowingly put a 4 lug suspension on it. anything's possible. my friend had purchased an integra type-r from a police auction. the car was stolen and gutted completely, including suspension, so the auction had a new suspension put back in. the thing is, type-r's have 5 lug, and they installed a 4 lug instead not knowing any better.

it's a stretch, but possible.

No V8 classic Mustang had 4 lugs from the factory. Double cleck the VIN on the door and match it to the VIN on the inner fender, and also match it to the Title.

I stand by my previous statement: those small 6 cyliner brakes are not adequate for a V8-powered car, and the 6 cylinder rear end could hardly handle the torque of the 200 cid. You're seriously not safe driving it as is.

Well, I wish I had a choice, but it's my only means of transportation. Again, how much is the conversion? I think im going to cry. [&:]
