Default Fuel Pump

Building a 347 for my stang. 11:1 compression, track heat heads, parker intake, and a few other goodies. Going carbureted witha 750 speed demon. Can I run a mechanical Pump? If so which do u suggest? Do i need a regulator? Your input is greatly appreciated.

I would think so
The carter high volume with good lines that dont have any sharp bends or kinks
should work if your HP is less than 500.
No reg is needed, its gonna be close but i think it should work

I have never liked electric fuel pumps, mainly because of the noise they make. Try checking out the racing mechanical pumps. Here is the edelbrock Performer mechanical fuel pump that is advertised to handle up to 550 ponies.

Mechanical pump should be fine but you may whant to rethink that 750 demon, we build a 347 with a blower pushing 530 hp and over 500 ftlbs of torque with a 650 db pump holley

It doesnt have to be higher flow if it flows enough.

The electric pump causes a whole bunch of new problems:
1) a reg to fail
2) more pressure = more chance to create a leak
3)electric motor to fail
4) if a float sticks and the engine dies the pump keeps on keepn' on
5) greater fire risk

The electric stuff probably wont give you any problems but be aware that it IS MORE prone to serious problems as well as minor ones vs a mechanical pump. my buddy put one on his firebird and now it sits because the reg failed.

Stick with a mechanical one if possible.

well i would do what ever you want just remember this if your elec pump does die you can go to a nearby auto part store and get a stock to limp home on well maybe if you carried some hose and a wrench and what not you could do it either way
