The BEST way to detail any engine (and engine compartment) is to pull it! That way you can pull all the accessories, de-grime the thing and then paint it from the block up, using a good quality hi-temp paint.

In your case, you could DEFINITELY benefit from a different u/l intake manifold like the GT40 manif. or maybe switch to the Holley Systemmax intake. The holley one you can buy in a polished finish which would look killer in that black engine compartment. I have seen some people polish the stock 5.0 HO manifolds, but if you're going to go through all that effort to pull the upper and lower manifolds (it is not an easy task!) you may as well swap in one that will flow better like the ones mentioned above.

Also, if you do pull the intake manifold, that is a good time to get to the valve covers as well (the stock 5.0 manifold does not allow access to the valve covers without pulling the upper part of the manif.) If you go with a polished intake, a matching set of polished Ford Racing valve covers would make a huuuger difference as well. I like the cobra ones you have now, but polished covers would really pop!

The Holley Systemmax intake is around $550 for both upper and lower

The GT40's are variable...you can buy new through FRPP for around $400 and you can find them used for as low as 300-350 (for upper and lowers).

As an alternative, a brand called Professional Products makes a 5.0 manifold set called the Typhoon which is basically an exact knock off of Edelbrock's Performer RPM 5.0 manifolds, and the price is pretty good ( I think its around $375 or so for upper and lower).

You'll probably want to double check these prices with the 5.0 guys, and always remember that a polished version of any manifold is going to take on some extra $$$ to the pricing.
