There Atom, I fixed it for ya..... I am surprised the mechanics have not performed a compression test. That was the first thing that hit my mind after you explained the symptoms.
???? what did i mispell? *****? or vacuum?

My first question is...

At what point did the car start doing what you're explaining? Was this an all of a sudden change in drivability? Is this a fresh rebuild? Does the car have a million miles on it? Did this start and then stop then start back up again?

A little history on the car will help. The Edlebrock componets suggest that there's been aftermarket work done. Did the symptons start before or after those imporvements.

Lets start from the beginning.
the car started this after stopping at a red light. i had rode it a little hard for about 5 blocks, but after it drove fine for a mile untill the light. then it started the rumbling and trying to cut off so i had to pedal the accelerator and that's when i heard the strange noise. as i drove off after the light there was almost no power, it was very sluggish and the exhaust sounded totally different. kind of like puttering, lawn mower type sounds.

there isn't a whole lot known about the car, however some work was done on the cam by the previous owner for what reason (ie failure of something maybe) i'm unsure. even at low speeds sometimes the car runs great. i sprayed the entire engine with carb cleaner desperately trying to find the vacuum leak but didn't have any luck. this morning i realised there is still an issue with the fuel though because the filter will run empty still. I'm going to replace the fuel pump filter and see what happens, but i'm not getting my hopes up because even when the filter is full i still have issues. I noticed that most of the time when my car is at or very close to 190 F it usually runs better but not always. if it gets a little higher or lower it tends to run worse. Thanks for all the replies, i will be getting a compression test done hopefully tommorrow.
