ENGINE I.D.

i got the number of the block where do i find out what the block actually is and what cubic inches it is, i was told it was a 302, but the heads say 289 all over it

Soaring, would this apply for a 289 also? I want to find additional info on my 289 (e.g., hp). I know it is a engine "type" A (4v-V8), put wanted to see if I could find additional info., if possible. Any help is appreciated.

Yes....The 289 A code engine was rated at 225 horsepower at the flywheel at 4800 RPM. Here is another chart to help.

Great. Thanks for the info. I guess there is really no need to try and find the engine stamp, other than for my records. The rated horsepower is all I really needed. I posted on another thread about what kind of carb was recommended for my 289. It currently has a Holley 750 cfm DP on the stock manofold and block. I think it had cam modifications to justify the large carb. I was thinking about going with a 600 cfm Edelbrock with matching manofold. Again, thanks for your help.
