Default 302 engine

i just bought a longblock 302 to put into my 66 stang. i was going to put on my intake manifold but i was wondering whats the best gasket sealer to get and is there a certain was to put it on, do i put the gasket sealer on the heads the put the gasket on and then put more gasket sealer on the intake so gasket sealer sandwiches the gasket. i've had problems with intake manifolds leaking in the past so i was just wondering. thanks, kevin

well for the best gasket sealer would be anything thats pretty known, i have mr gasket on mine and they were pretty good also put the sealer of the heads first. if you put it on the manifold ur going to have problems like leaks and also the gasket moving around cuz of the monifold it is best u put the sealer on the heads and sandwich them together thats what i did and i had no problems at all! hopefully if will work out the same for you!

I usually use a thin layer of silicon gasket sealer on the intake side of the gaskets and install the gaskets on the intake first and let the sealer set up before I put the intake on. I also put a thin coat on the head side of the gasket too before I install the intake. also it works better to just use a 1/4 inch continuous bead of gasket maker on the ends of the block rather than the rubber or cork gaskets that come in the gasket kit to seal up the ends. apply this evenly and go up a little on the heads and let it sit for about 10 minutes to get tacky before you lower the manifold down on it and try not to move the manifold around after you set it down. install all the bolts finger tight and then start tightening them in the center and work you way out to the ends and torque them down to specs in two or three steps so you don't get the intake cocked by tightening any one bolt to much compared to the rest of them.
