shifter rattle - 4 spd toploader
I have the original 4spd shifter with the reverse lockout on my 66.
I had all the spring mechanisms etc replaced a while ago and it was operating perfectly till I had the box pulled for an overhaul.
when they put it back together, it now has a rattle which gets worse the more revs into it (any gear)
I'm guessing there were some shims or something that have been pulled out or fallen out during the work.
Any one have any experience with these things?
Can I get the shifter off with the gear box still in the car or do i need to drop the box to fix this?
thanks

You can take the shifter out from the top. Most Mustang supply places sell overhaul kits for the shifter. My shifter was so worn, that I had to use some rubber inserts to stop the rattling. Someday, I will need to replace the entire shifter, but the kits stop it for a few years.
