Just an idea david but if you document the rebuild take photo's etc. You might get a bit more for the car, telling people what you did is all well and good but i don't believe used car sale people. Thus the pictures will add validity and precedent, which people who want to drive classic are only to happy to see. If you enjoy doing it and make money at the same time then thats secret of a happy job. Good luck to you.

restore
I think that "restore" is the term people are having trouble with David. I think that you are improving, but not restoring. When I think of a restore I think of a solid year worth of work. but that's just me. Good luck in your endevours.....

Or 5 years.....

Keep in mind to that if you sell so many in a certain amount of time you must get a dealers licesnse. Here in VA I think its 7 cars in a year.

So I would say less than 2 months of work 5 days a week got me $4500 which Id say is pretty good for a 17 year old.
Its also fun doing this as well!
cash, tax free and beats hell out of flipping burgers...Brilliant.

what's your cunning plan for a few years from now...that won't seem like so much money then and besides you need it for new cars and parts for your growing business. Is this something you plan to make a career out of?

I see that there is a wide rande of the term "restoring". T know you can go all out in restoring a car and take many years. My idea of restoring is just making it as original as possible without going overboard. I know there are enthusiasts out there that are picky about which bolt is painted and how much each is torqued but there are more people out there who dont care. I hope someday I can take the money and not worry about making profit but making a full nut and bolt restoration.

I just like doing this as a hobby. Ill never go into mechanics or anything like that as a career. I dont want to work on other peoples cars. Or if you mean making a career out of buying and selling cars hell no. Im 17 years old and this is by far the easiest way to make the most money.

you are right about the fiberglass filler. But yes i do fill in some small rust holes wth bondo but I make sure they are grinded down well and have rust remover on as well. Not everyone has a welder or the skills to do it.

Yes it is. Much better to turn wrenches and do some bodywork rather than turn burgers. But why can't that be done with cars that are not so precious to the hearts of Mustang enthusiasts, when the final for sale product is not up to restoration standards for classic mustangs? One of the many reasons he is using classic Mustangs in his endeavor to make a buck because they are a hot item right now. It is a good marketing strategy, but whenever the supply dries up, marketing strategists like him usually move on to more lucrative avenues.
I also turned a few wrenches to fix up some old cars when I was his age so I could make a profit, but they were cars that were not ever going to be a classic. I remember just putting an alternator on a 1985 Honda Civic, and turned a 500 dollar profit in one weekend. To me, there is the profit margin that makes sense, and you are not screwing up a classic Mustang just to make a profit.
Sorry David, but you have struck a nerve with me.
