Default Another seat cover question...

I've been about ready to redo the seats in my 72 for a couple of months now. When I called for prices the guy said if I just did the front seats, it probably would not match the back, which really does not need to be redone. I have to buy the front or the front and back seat, but I can't buy just the back. I'm hesitating because I don't want to end up with a totally different shade of blue on the front seats. Has anybody dealt with aftermarket upholstery in blue interiors? Thanks.

his reasoning is that the back seat has 34 years of fading might as well do front and back will make the resto that much newer looking

I haven't dealt with blue interiors, but I can tell you that black certainly is different. I was in the same situation, where my back bench didn't need to be done. How can shades of black be "that" different? Well, sure enough, as soon as I was done with the fronts I wish I had the back. They didn't even look close. My wife was laughing at me.

Here's the rub: I couldn't purchase JUST the back bench from NPD. I had to research the manufacturer and call them directly. And they certainly didn't cut me a deal by going direct...

So instead of paying ~$50 more for back seat as a set, I ended up shelling out over $100 plus shipping for it! So much for trying to be cheap.

The downside is that you have that many more hogrings to blister your hands...

Please learn from my mistake. Purchase the full set.

How hard are the seats to recover? I have standard interior in a 66 coupe.

For me, it was harder than most people here led on!!!

In all honesty, you just have to really take your time. It took me a few hours just to strip the old covers. Seems like any estimate I make for work on the mustang needs to be doubled. What I thought I could accomplish in a day took almost two... Your mileage may vary.

Some good advice that someone gave me was to take lots of digital pictures during the disassembly. Also do one at a time. Get good hog ring pliers, too (I had some pretty good blisters).

I like the blue int. but have been wishing it was black, assuming there was no such thing as different shades of black. Oh well. I saw a 72 with a blue int. at the TN valley mustang show in Pigeon Forge a few weeks ago and it looked new and much lighter than what's in my car. I'm definetely getting the full set. Might as well do it right. I really appreciate the feedback. It's great to have access to a forum with so many knowledgable people.
