Default Stroking a 289

ok ive been pondering this for awhile since a 302 and 289 have the same block just a different stroke right well if u buy a 347 stroker kit for a 302 and put it in a 289 would u then in turn have a 289 stroked to a 347

ya you would but i would fina a 302 block to do that to and preserve your 289 for its not a common engine like the 302

it nothing but a 30 ove rbore and a little cylinder notching a good choice is also the 331 they have a longer life expectancy and u dont have to notch the cylinders

listen to brandon, keep the 289 and just find a ole 302 then buy the kit.

You could do it without too much problem. The big problem would be the bellhousing bolt pattern. Many older Windsors had a 5-bolt bellhousing instead of the more popular 6-bolt pattern, making them harder to find trannies that fit.

yet another reason to listen to me plus 289 internals more expensive and harder to come by in good/new condition versus a 302 which was used for 30yrs
