It will take you forever to sand that stuff by hand. Chemical stripper or DA is the only way to go. I stripped my roof and sail panels in a day with aircraft stripper. If you are going down to metal make sure you use some metal prep of self etching primer over the bare metal. Primer surfacer will fill in the sanding scratches left by the DA if you go that route. Just finished doing the body and paint work on my 70. I hate body work, but it has to be done.

Heck yes im taking that eye sore hole in the roof out of my car i was quoted around 1,300 for patching the hole and making it look like it was never there it just totally kills me everytime i look at it

Well it has to be done if you want a purdy car like Soarings...
I am unfond of it, but it seems like its all I do lately.. People stop by to see if a car is for sale, and they always ask if i am a body man.. I say "no, drivetrain specialist..."
If you dont have a good air compressor, get some aircraft stripper, it works realy well and fast. A plastic drop sheet under the car and trashbags over the wheels will help keep the mess to a minimum.. Be sure to wash it off real well after you have bare metal you dont want it dryin on there...
