Yep im sanding down my whole car aswell but i just bough a skil 4" by 5" sander and a dual action air sander and it works very fast keep in mind your gonna have to sand the whole car again with some finer grit sand paper too like maybe #400 GRIT

I have two cars in bare metal right now, they got that way with alot of sand paper and some sand blasting.. gonna do the underhood/front suspension of the Cougar today..
Just keep reminding yourself of what it will be like when its done... and that it could be worse.. If you want to see worse I have pics..lol

you dont want deep gouges in the metal. So you dont want to use a heavy 40 or 80 grit right before layin down primer. if you do, they will show through. you dont want it smooth like a babys bottom, but you dont want it like a gravel road either. 400 is what you use after the body work is done.
its okay to use 80 to strip the paint. its what I am using on the DA and it works pretty well.. Hence the pics I posted..
Got any pics of yours?
