Differential Fluid Question

Default Differential Fluid Question

How much Fluid does a 9" Differntial hold. I put in 2 quarts and saw some comming out of the fill hole but i wanna ease my mind and make sure its enough. Thanks again.

Thats the proper way to fill em, pump it until it starts peeing out the fill hole and its full.

My '68 shop manual says to fill it to the bottom of the filler hole, but says that the capacity is 5 US pints -- so if it started out bone dry, you'd be 1/2 qt low.

On the other hand, it also says 4 imperial pints (does anyone use those?), so it probably pretty close.
