I have that tool in my toolbox, but I just use pliers. Too lazy to get off the floor and get the tool.

everytime I use pliers....I end off slipping at the last second and sending the cap and spring rocketing out and then have to spend 10-20 minutes finding them. [:@]

I hold the pin in with a finger from the back as I compresss the spring and retainer with the pliers. Then I grab the pin with the pliers and use my fingers to spin the retainer. I have yet to launch one. Now the springs are another story alltogether!

Ditto on the busted knuckle and launched spring, The tool I use is a multi tool from sears,
it includes spring pliers and a spring bar.

I've always just used channel locks to hold the retainer, then push the retainer onto the spring while supporting the pin from the back. Once the retainer is past the retainers on the pin, just twist the retainer.

I think that would work better than my way.

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, and even help out friends with their brakes etc, might be worth the couple bucks for the tools. Pliers work, but nothing like having the right tools.

What is wrong with your adjusters? You can get them at any parts store. No need to get them on line. You realize there is a left and a right on those don't you?
