Traction bars practical for street use?
they might look good, but for just spinning around town a little wider tire would work just as good. if your going to race somebody, just let a little air out of the rear tires. i used to run about 10 lbs in 50s on a 73 big block 455 trans am to race years ago. but i kept a air tank in the car. dont drive it with the tires low!
depends on the type of traction aid
Shelby underrider - very practical and something I recommend for anyone with a mustang with wheel hop
Slide a links - not so practical
slapper bars - no so useful (IMO) in either place but they are period correct (as well as the underriders)
cal tracs - not so practical

I just had to post that whenever I see traction bars installed (the slapper style) 9 out of 10 there installed wrong and theres like 4 inches of travel between the snubber and the leaf I just have to laugh. I was always under the assumption that you should only be able to slide the thickness of a nickel between the snubber and the leaf.

I actually like the Caltracs for driving around town and the backroads. With a bit of preload they give a more progressive feel to the otherwise weak stock spring rate.
Of course I'd be happier with stiffer rear springs along with the Caltracs. Just waiting on the V8 install, so I can get the car on scales and figure out what rate to run.
YMMV,
