Default A few ?'s.

While my interior was stripped out, I was wanting to replace the heater core in my 68 coupe. Can anyone give me words of wisdom and advice or kindly point me in the direction of a writeup or something. Also, my 68 has the textured door panels on top and bottom, i was wanting to keep the texture feel and paint them blue (color of car) as well, but i know if i sand the textured part will turn smooth. so is there a way, or a chemical stripper to clean and prep the surface for the work to be done?

I've changed the heater core in my car, and its not fun. There are clips all around the box that keep the two halves together and I think you di it that way, If I remember correctly.

Not sure how much different a 68 is from 67, assuming its not to much.... i don't think its a horrible job to do the worst part is the clips on top they are a pain to get to. Taking out the glove box helps alot at gettin to those.

Take the whole box out. That is the best way to do it. Clean it all up and make sure everything is right before going back in.

those hinges on the passenger vent door can be a mother when they fuse together with rust

I thought removing the whole unit was the best way also. I connected about four feet of hose to the core (in and out), then ran it into the engine compartment. Trying to get under the dash to connect and tighten is very difficult, and I did not want any leaks. Of course assuming yours is close to the 66 style.
