Default Idler arm

Just pulled the idler arm off the '65 and it needs a new bushing. Looking at it it seems to have a buching that is about 2 inches long. NPD carries the buching for '65 thru '68. The local Pep Boys has one also, BUT it seems to be only about an inch or so long. Which one should I get, or is there something better out there?AND, how do I replace the bushing? Is it just a simple press-out and press-in?

I recently replaced mine and had a problem that my old arm had a 1 1/4" hole and bushings were 1- 1 1/8". What I found was the TRW and Moog parts had the larger busing while the no name ones had smaller bushings. I went with a moog for $59 but just a bushing would be cheaper. Roller bearing probably the best at $89 for the kit and around $139 for whole arm. I went for $59 since I drive about 500 miles a year.

I got my idler arm along with a ton of other front end stuff from NAPA. Can't remember how much exactly. Seems to me it was around 30 bucks.

It's been awhile since I have bought one but it used to be that replacing the whole idler arm made more sense. With the cost of the bushing and getting it pressed in it made sense to buy the whole idler arm. Don't try to press it yourself. It is a PITA!

If you don't mind a little extra work get a roller bearing kit. Helps tighten up the front end. Opentracker Racing Products has one at a good price. I'd give John a call and ask him if there is anything special you need to do. He and his wife opentrack their '65.

Good luck!

I just checked his website and he's having a christmas sale on his roller idler arms as well.

I have one on my car and it really made a big improvement.

75 bucks for the arm, thats not bad at all. Is it a very noticable improvment? Im already done my steering and would rather work on other things.
I also just bought a whole suspension kit, Id get roller spring perches but im poor

The arm for a 65 is $125.00 but for the 67 it's $75. I wonder why the difference in price?
I sure like the idea of having grease zerks on them though.

Scott and 2bav, I remember reading somewhere that these items help with manual steering. Do you happen to have manual?
