Default 289 Refresh!

I bought my 1966 Convertible a couple of years ago and I am thinking about pulling the engine and having it completely stripped and rebuilt. It has several oil leaks and just does not have power I sure it once had. Does anyone have any advice on what I should or should not have done? Also estimates on the cost? I am able to remove and replace the engine myself but I would have a professional engine rebuilder do all the engine work. I have a v-8 289 and I want to keep it completely stock. Any advice would be much appreciated..

Contact all machine shops in your area to get an estimate. Depending on where you are located the price will vary drastically from place to place. A stock overhaul should not cost you more than about 16 hundred dollars unless you are in Kali. You could also do it yourself if you have some tools and a decent knowledge about engines.

If you're doing the work yourself, just have a reputable machine shop do the block work. They could do the head work as well.

If you're not doing the work yourself then I highly recommend checking into a crate motor.
