Default getting a 68 coupe restarted

I have a 68 coupe (289 - V8) that hasn't been started in going on 3 years. I am inexperienced with cars in general, so I need a little help. I want to get the car started. What do I go about doing in order not to damage the engine? Thanks

Remove all the plugs and put a small amount of oil in the cylinders and pour a little gas in the carb. Car should start right up and smoke alot. You might be better off to change the oil first and unhook the fuel line at the pump and run a fuel line into a gas can with fresh gas.
Good luck.

also take the carb out first to make sure that there are no bugs n such. also it would be great if u get a carb rebuild kit...but since u said u dont know what to do i would do what ss4ever said just for a quick start. also check the wiring to see if everything is in order.u dont want anything blowing up in ur face ..also check the brakes...cuz if ur going to take it for a spin and u didnt check the brakes wow good luck..on braking lol also take out the old fluids and replace them one new fuilds...also check the rubber hoses if they are soft replace them. but yeh its alot of work but its worth it in the end.. good luck!

Thanks for the advice from both. I started and got seven plugs out but one is rock solid. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

Squirt some WD40 where the plug screws into the head, and let it soak in for awhile. You should be able to get it loose by doing that.

I had a truck that was sitting for two years and I just started it. The fuel line was rotten and had to replace it. Some wasp had a nest on the carb and it was stuck on high idle. The gas was fine and the brakes worked fine too. I had to put trans fluid in. I drove it sunday and pull a 10,000lbs trailer. After all of that it worked just fine. When you start yours up, start it up a see what goes wrong.
