Thanks to you all. I have no risers. Am starting to wonder what else is missing. Wher can I get a good copy of a chassis manual and an interiot manual that would have detailed diagrams?

So should the car have a one piece long floorboard on each side? I have a short piece from the front of the seat to the firewall and a longer piece from that to the back seat (convertible). Is that OK?

The factory service manual available from most all mustang parts places for about $40 should be on every classic owners bookshelf. It will show you exactly what should be there. For a free bee, download the NPD catalogue, it has good diagrams of most of the parts. It sounds like someone has been after your car with a cut off wheel! By the way, the seat platforms act as a stiffening element to help the unibody carry some of the torque. You really should have something to brace the body between the side rails and the transmission tunnel.

OK, I was wrong. I have them. I need to remove the carpet (new) to see what the floorpan looks like, rust-wise. There is a hole I can see from underneath the car that's about the size of my fist, but I'm assuming I can patch that. What's the preferred method of keeping rust at a minimum? Is there a spray or brush-on chemical treatment that works?

por15 is a popular choice, it is a rust encapsulating product,

but a fist sized hole in the floorpan needs to be patched, not just have a rust stopping agent applied.
