roller cams?? for FE's
i am working on a '68 FB... it started its' life as a small block 302. i managed to get lucky and found a rebuilt 428 FE. it only has 500 miles on it. i got CJ heads and continue to build the motor up. i am going to get alum Edelbrock cylinder heads, headers, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a Demon 750 cfm carb. i want to add roller rockers, and a roller cam. i know that a roller cam will reduce friction and improve effeciency, but could someone explain why. and maybe what prices i might be looking at for a roller cam setup.

RE: roller cams?? for FE's
less friction because instead of two pieces of metal sliding against each other you have two moving pieces of metal think about a wheel rolling down the road as oposed to a wheel sliding down a road. as for prices you can get the tie bar type lifter conversions or have the block machined to except stock type roller lifters. You will spend less getting the tie bars. here is a link to summit for prices click on the suggested parts to get the price of the lifters.

That FE is a bit of a different animal. I'd suggest that you visit this site for some great information: http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182/

why change the heads if it already has CJs on it? Lower compression to use pump gas perhaps? I know of a machine shop that build high end FEs for Cobra replicars, they could give you some info. http://www.gessford.com/ I know George personally and have raced against him in his Cobra. He's a decent guy wont steer you wrong. He is pricey but so is the FE..
