There is a small leak where my timing cover meets the oil pan right below the harmonic balancer why?

yeah it happens... try to replace them every 40 years HEHE[sm=smiley16.gif]

 

You just didn't get the sealant in that area.

 

Have you swapped the gaskets on the oil pan or timing cover recently? If so, did you use a torque wrench when re-assembling and torque to appropriate specs?

Many leaks at the front if the pan are caused by overtightening the oil pan, and even when changing the timing cover gasket, because you still remove the front bolts from the oil pan. Overtightening can cause the pan gasket suface to warp or smush out the gasket, leaving just enough space for a leak.

If you have not changed those gaskets, well then, its time.....
