Default cfm

i know its been asked millions of times, but ive finally got some money to spare (had to replace all the suspenison parts on the stang, DOH! that fd up my plans for a while) and it is intake and carburator time! as of now the car sits in my garage with a stock 289 c code (2 barrel not sure CFM) im going to be buying the edelbrock performer RPM airgap (if it will fit) intake and a 4 barrel holley or edelbrock carb. what CFM do you guys think would be enough? 600? thats what im thinkin. oh and the car has patriot headers and dual flowmaster exhaust. thanks guys!

600 should be plenty

600 is more than enough for a stock 289. A 500 will feed it up to around 6k rpm. But, the smallest Holley DP is 600...and that's the carb you should be getting...

FYI, here's the equation that lets you ball park the carb size.

cfm=(cid*rpm)/3456

I'd say screw the holley and get the eddy. I have bought 2 of em now and have had good luck... good gasmileage and good power, best of both worlds in my eyes

I wondered that too and finally did the math.

CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute.

CID converts to cubic feet by dividing by 1728. Since it's a 4-stroke, divide by 2 since you only need air intake once per every 2 revs. And, you get 3456.

Cool, eh?[8D]

Unless you've owned both, you'll never know the difference. A Holley will provide better mileage, power, and throttle response while allowing a much larger range of tuning options and upgrades.
