Default Harmonic Balancer?

Has anybody had and troubles with their Harmonic Balancer and if so what made you think there was trouble with it and how did your motor run if it was not working right.Do they wear out over time or just die . Any information on this I would like it to determine if I need to replace mine on my 67 289. thanks...

Good question. I aslo do not understand how it functions (expect it's supposed to balance out he vibrations from the engine) and how to tell if it is wearing out.

the performance one is safer to rev to a higher rpm, the stock one has 2 rings with a rubber piece sandwiched in between them. the rubber can dry rot leading to slipped timing marks, and balance and the outer ring can come off also. so unless ur concours theres no need to go with the original during a engine rebuild since a cheap street dampner is like 200$ compared to 60-100$ for a stock one and theres no rubber ring to give u problems

good rule of thumb, "If its over 20 years old, replace it" so if its the original u might as well.
