fyi.. there is no v6 from the Ford untill the 70s, they are all inline engines before that.

If there is rust in that many places, I have some advice for you. Get a good welder. Not a cheap welder, get a very good one. You are going to be replacing alot of sheetmetal. When you find the rest of the rust, do yourself a favor and dont just cut off the front end. There is a system to it so you dont end up trying to figure out where everything goes.


$300, its age and the stuff you mentioned that you can see needs replaced gives me one of those shudders like you get in a horror flick. before its done you will have rust nightmares and be either an expert welder or someone who has a really messed up car.. take your time with it, and triple check everything before final welding.

Well yes theres alot of rust...but im not going to rush threw it and a plus side is (my dad welds on the side from his other mechanic job) so I dont need to worry about crappy welds. The frame is perfect so there will be no need to cut the front end, the only bad spot is that floor pan but cjponyparts has one for i think 80 bucks ready to weld into place. The rear end of the car was replaced so im good to go there.
I plan to first pull the engine and tranny (rebuilding both over the winter) then concentrate on the shell of the car, hopefully we can get the car primed etc before spring and have it painted, by then the engine n tranny will be completed and once we get the car painted we will drop them in and concentrate on other factors of the motor. The car came with the old seat frames so thats a start to the interior but thats the last thing in my list to do. But its good to know that you guys can help me out if I get stuck on something.

I finally got my pics, it doesnt look like much but give me a year I'll make it into a true classic.






The only real trouble spot but all I need is to buy the replacement floorpan.

No offense but that looks like the kind of car I would use for parts. Good luck in your reso. If you dont know how to weld, learn. Even though your dad is a welder, it is often hard for dad's to drop everything to come weld for you. I found that after my dad had welded in the first panel for me and decided to call it a night at 2 in the afternoon with about a hundred panels left to go I just couldnt wait for him. Its a good skill to learn and you will appreciate it especially after you replace as many panels as you will need to on your car. I hate to ask my dad for help unless its something I just cant move by myself so I have adapted. In the end I taught myself how to weld, I watched him do it a couple times and picked up the welder when he wasnt around. The worst part about all of it is that he was so slow and most of his welds looked like bird $hit. Now I have learned so much on my own that my welds surpass his by far in both looks and structural integrity, not to mention that I can go twice as fast as him even on rusty 20 ga. sheet. Its the best skill i have ever learned with respect to my car and im sure you will be happier doing your own welding as well.

I actually know a little welding (i wouldnt say im good but i can do it) I plan to do 95% of the work on my own but theres things i just dont know so ill need some help in certain areas, but im doing it to learn and to have a sweet ride after its complete.

Theres a red 1965 mustang right behind my project, a 1973 camaro, and another 1964 1/2 convertible mustang.

Well i think you are doing the right thing......64 1/2 in any condition for 300 bucks.....damm good deal....and keeping the orignal motor in it and keeping it stock.... Once that is fully restored....You will have a nice piece of history...and it if you ever sell it....you will get lots of money.....you might break even, lol. Anyways Good luck!

I like your attitude. I just hope you understand the massive amount of money and time it will take you to make that rust bucket into a driveable car.
